Following the devastation left by Hurricane Maria in 2017, our CEO, Ivonne Rodríguez-Wiewall, collaborated with the California-based humanitarian non-profit organization Direct Relief ultimately becoming Executive Advisor for the Puerto Rico Team. During these collaborative efforts, IRW Gives Back was established as part of IRW’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. During a visit to the Kenyan Maasai community in 2023, our CEO connected with locals and they expressed the need for support in educating young girls of the Maasai region. This experience gave way to IRW Gives Back’s Pilot Scholarship Program as one of Ivonne’s professional endeavors is mentoring and empowering women and helping them excel in their careers.

Pilot Scholarship Program for Maasai Girls

Kenya, 2023 – Letter from CEO

Dear Friend and Client of IRW,

I hope this message finds you well. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the Maasai Community in Kenya, an experience that has deeply impacted me on both a personal and professional level. I wanted to take a moment to share with you the inspiration that emerged from this journey.

As many of you know, our company is deeply committed to fostering compassion and inclusion within our organization and the communities we serve. During my time with the Maasai Community, I was struck by the resilience, strength, and unwavering determination of the young girls I had the privilege of meeting.

Despite facing significant challenges and barriers to education, these girls exhibited a remarkable thirst for knowledge and a profound desire to create a better future for themselves and their communities. It was clear to me that they possessed immense potential and talent, yet lacked access to the resources and opportunities necessary to realize their dreams.

In light of this realization, I am thrilled to announce the launch of our Pilot Scholarship Program for young girls from the Maasai Community. This program aims to provide financial assistance, mentorship, and educational resources to empower these girls to pursue their academic and career aspirations.

Through this initiative, we hope to not only break down barriers to education but also to cultivate a more diverse and inclusive workforce for the future. By investing in the education and empowerment of young girls, we are not only transforming individual lives but also building a more equitable and prosperous society for generations to come.

I am incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment demonstrated by our team in making this program a reality. Together, we have the power to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of these young girls and their communities.

I invite each and every one of you to join us on this journey as we work towards a future where every child, regardless of background or circumstance, has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to our shared mission.

Warm regards,

Ivonne M. Rodríguez-Wiewall

Giving Back

Giving Back is in IRW’s DNA. In times of natural disasters and emergencies, our team has joined efforts with the Direct Relief Puerto Rico Team to deliver medical equipment and supplies to patients in vulnerable communities and participated as volunteers during health fairs led by the organization.

Each year on Giving Tuesday, our team members are urged to volunteer their time at a local non-profit of their choosing.
